Manganese is a common element found in steel and welding rods that are used to weld onto steel.  High levels of manganese exposure is considered a neurotoxin and the industrial hygiene community has become increasingly concerned about both acute and chronic health effects from airborne exposure to manganese dust and fumes.

Forensic Analytical Consulting Services has provided control services through substitution, engineering controls and personal protective equipment, such as respirator testing in order to protect against manganese exposure.
